in awe
i watched
breath stilled
you strolled in fire
as if in verdant pasture
you
though exposed
were composed
holding close secrets
flame in your spell
dispelled all madness
you appeared ablaze
that they
who would care to
come near
would not dare to
what was real
remains veiled
yet remembered
what was not
memory dimmed
is regarded
in grace
you walked
strong - proud
you emerged unscathed
a Phoenix
having realized you
my heart stays
in your care
so it abides
guiding
from this focused mind
gliding to yours
one third Earth distant
love and reverence
past paths of divergence
my message
continuity
to hold in certainty
here and here-forward
1 4 3 eternity

Habitual Safety
A broken dream of girl,
I've been cowering for years,
the edges of my fear sharp
and threatening to impale me.
In the darkest depths of this ache,
"safe" became a haven,
a habit, a hurt--
the ground shifted beneath me,
life grew wild around my feet,
but I chose not to budge or change.
I stagnated, a pond devoid of ripples--
a lightless, lifeless set of hopes
without the proper words to lift me.
Somewhere between safe and happy,
I lost my balance and forgot myself
and when the axis reached the apex,
I pulled you down with me.
Broken shell of boy,
I hope you understand--
I'll apologize for hurting you
but I refuse to throw myself away agai

Experiment Backwards
Marietta could write books about bad books.
It was a pretty bad book, really. She bit her lower lip. The end was the end, too. No.
Was the end the beginning?
The pages were printed backwards, so the beginning was the end. She waved the magnifying glass around. I read about this once.
Literature
inglorious
i am all smiles
and pale sun,
too.
and we are wild
things
it's true.
but in past lives
i was good.

A woman of grace, beauty and great character
withstands a self imposed trial by fire. those
who would learn were taught. those who had
depth were taken deeper. the others don't
matter.
for myself, newfound feelings of connection,
a sudden ability [?] to write poetry [?].
blame her for my presense here.
[extremely revised - feb2011]
[and more the next day]
[a few more, the next]
[ditto +]
[and again]
editing done, [i think], i re-post, 3-06-2011.
[small edits - jul2011]
[more edits - oct2011]
tidied up some more - 4/22/2012 - sigh.
edits, removed punctuation - also re-post - 7/14/2012.
Something happened today. The lovely woman that inspired this poem saw it for the first time - her message: "thank you so much! This is wonderful!" And, I was very pleased to message her back with a delirious 'thank you'. 06/26/2017.

This is an incredible piece. I find it somehow comforting to find I'm not the only one that endlessly revises old works.
